While the Kentucky Derby may be the most famous race on the U.S. horse racing schedule, it only forms the opening leg of the Triple Crown. Two weeks after the most-watched race in the U.S., the contenders travel to Pimlico in Maryland to compete in the Preakness Stakes.
The final leg of the Triple Crown sees the Belmont Stakes held, which will be run at Saratoga for the second straight year in 2025. The Preakness Stakes is one of the most lucrative races on the U.S. racing schedule, with the field competing for their share of the $2 million purse.
